I’ve never shot at Fish Factory in Penryn before but it’s always great to see a space being turned into a venue, even though it often means lighting will be bad and shots will be messy for me.
In the past I’ve definitely been hung up about spaces being too messy for shots, and trying to isolate band members not so much to capture their solo performance but more so to hide various things that are going on in the venue. I’m trying to move beyond this and capture as much as possible, wides to mids to close up shots, and get a variety of different captures that showcase the feeling of the performance rather than being caught up with the idea of a shot being aesthetically or compositionally perfect. I think the idea of perfection in a DIY/punk setting is basically something that exists to set yourself up for a fall, so I’m glad I’m starting to feel like I can move past it to some extent.
