Jo, Portraits in Cornwall, 8.7.19
Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken in St. Ives, Cornwall.
Some words about the shots…
These photographs were mostly taken in an orchard that Jo volunteers on. It’s a lovely plot of land that hadn’t been tended to for awhile but then a selection of green fingered volunteers got hold of it and started loving it and transforming it into a beautiful green space. It was way too hot to enjoy it on the day that we photographed but Jo’s passion alone told me that this area was only going to improve and become even more beautiful.
In terms of the shots, it was incredibly hot the day that we photographed we lots of direct, harsh sunlight and very little way of blocking it or really finding shade without compromising the photographs in any way. I’m really struggling with shooting in the harsh sunlight this summer has started throwing at us but because I’m struggling with it (both physically and photography wise) I feel that I shoot be working in it more. It isn’t the most ideal way to create (for both model or photographer) but I definitely feel that working in this lighting, mixed with minimal lighting gear of my own to fill in shadows, will make me a more knowledgeable and well rounded creative in the future.
Some words about the model…
Jo used to model a lot in previous years but a mixture of bad health as well as moving towards make-up meant that it took a bad seat to everything. I think this shoot was interesting for us both as well as it’s rare I work with someone so experienced as well as a little bit older (sorry Jo! You’re rocking it!) and obviously Jo hasn’t posed in awhile now.
