These photographs were taken in Kimberley Park in Falmouth in Cornwall.
Some words about equipment…
I tested a new lens for this shoot which was the Helios 58mm lens.
Before this I’d been using the Sigma Art 35mm which obviously everyone was raving about but I just didn’t enjoy using it at all. It felt bulky, the auto focus wasn’t great on a Canon but at the same time, I got no enjoyment out of using the manual focus. The Helios though, ticks all the boxes for me. Despite it being a solely manual focus lens, which can make certain shots tricky, it’s pretty much got everything I want. It feels natural to use and even with the adapter to fit it to my Canon body, it’s still a lot smaller than every other lens I own. On top of that, it has a beautiful softness to it, which most would hate, but I totally love.
Some words about the shots…
Weirdly there haven’t been very many males come forward to want to be photographed with flowers. I think there’s still some acknowledgement from guys that flowers are feminine and feminine is wrong for a male.
I don’t actually find these images hyper feminine to be honest. There are definite delicate moments in there but it feels like they work, rather than a brooding battling a beautiful.
