Some words about the shots…
Charlies Bar is easily one of my least favourite places to take photographs. It’s dark, and whatever lighting it does have can be considered bad lighting. Alongside this, it’s such a visually noisy place with no real stage, and nowhere for bands to ‘hide’ their gear.
So with that in mind I thought it was the perfect place to casually take some more shots with the Sigma 14-24mm lens.
Given that I had to use flash and the focus assist on the flash generally only does a centre focus, the lens did a great job of auto focusing around that and on top of this, it only misfired its focus a handful of times which considering the circumstances is fantastic.
I’m definitely not used to having the option of photographing wide and it’s something that I need to work on and experiment with in varying situations so that I get the best from this lens. Obviously it’s going to be great shooting behind crowds and photographing big well lit stages, but I also think the test will be getting in close and using it as an almost fisheye lens.
