I walked miles today, for hours, looking for street shots. At first it was cold, my fingers turning red and sore as I covered them with gloves and hoped they wouldn't get in the way if that perfect shot did come around. And then it went past midday, the sun came out and all my layers that had served me so well as a precaution early in the morning were now turning on me to make me feel uncomfortable.
But this, I have come to learn, is street photography. It isn't necessarily about having the best camera, or knowing the technique, being the best photographer. It's about being prepared for things like the weather, for being approached by those who catch you photographing them, sometimes being chased. More than anything, it's about being patient. You can sometimes go weeks without finding a moment that you adore to capture, but that's what it's about, that buzz when you know you've got something good in the bag.
