I've played gigs since I was seventeen. I know how scary they can be, and if I didn't know, pretty much any band in the world would tell me how scary they can be. But no-one really tells you about how difficult it is to photograph gigs, especially in small venues when you feel like you're getting in the audiences way. No photographer really says about how shooting small gigs are tough because you can feel the eyes on your back as you're photographing, and even worse, you see the audience watching you, not the band, as move to find a new angle to shoot from. When this happens, the biggest thing isn't that your ISO isn't stretching as far as you'd like it to match the poor lighting, it's getting past the anxiety of feeling self conscious and getting some good shots down.
