Memory Of Elephants, Last Hyena + Flowers Of Palo in Fives, Falmouth, 1.5.19
Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken in Fives in Falmouth, Cornwall.
Some words about the venue…
This was the first time I’ve managed to photograph at Fives. It’s always a bit strange when you see a lot of other peoples work and then you go into a venue with their photographs in mind!
Anyway, Fives are doing an absolutely fantastic job of showcasing local (and non local) musical talent. And even though the upstairs is all pretty lovely, there’s definitely a DIY punk aesthetic to Fives (maybe without the sticky floors though). If you’re Cornwall based, or just visiting, I recommend swinging by there.
Some words about the bands…
Flowers Of Palo opened the night and despite being the odd ones out (by having a vocalist) they put in a pretty confident performance of an indie sound pretty much dripping wet with shoe gaze influence. You can check them out by clicking here.
Next up were Last Hyena (who were the reason that I was there so probably slightly biased here). These guys mix post rock, math and jazz influences to create an unpredictable sound. Feeling very much like a homecoming show due to the members affiliations with the crowd, the band put in the most assured and energetic performance that I’ve seen from them so far. You can check them out by clicking here.
Lastly were Memory Of Elephants. Despite being dogged by everything from glasses falling off members faces to instrument and pedal issues which in part led to time constraints, this three put in a doomy fuzz laden performance that definitely made me wish they had more time.
