Some words about the gig…
It says a lot off the bat that a local alternative line-up sells a hundred presale tickets for a scene that is hardly renowned for its metal scene but such is the hype behind these bands that they managed to do that as well as sell tickets on the door on a wet and blustery Cornish night.
50 Year Storm started the night off, and although the softest of the three acts showcased tonight they sounded bigger and heavier than I’ve heard them to date.
Next up, Golitha, are a fairly fresh act on the scene but you can tell from the offset that they’ve been rehearsing vigorously for moments like this. Their heavy and emotionally brooding set was easily up there in one of the finer performances I’ve seen by a local act and given the technicality of the band, I really expect them to be flying the Cornwall nest sooner rather than later.
During the break between bands, I definitely asked a couple of audience members how Godstone would even be able to follow up the performance of Golitha but any doubts were answered within seconds of the band entering the stage. Having not seen the band for awhile, they have come back heavier than ever with a more energetic stage presence that saw the audience respond in kind with the Old Bakery soon becoming a sea of warmth and sweat.
