Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken on an incredibly bright but windy day behind Princess Pavilions in Falmouth, Cornwall.

How were these photographs taken?
I have to admit it….I’ve got into some bad habits. I’ve been solely using auto focus and alongside this I've been using live mode consistently. Don’t get me wrong, if this is how you achieve your photographs, this is completely fine. But me, I found myself having a bit of a creative crisis recently and I think a lot of it was due to the disconnect I had created between myself and my camera. It didn’t feel particularly natural and I felt a bit robotic taking photographs.

On top of this I fell into another bad habit. Pintrest. It’s such a great tool for researching images, poses, creating mood boards etc. But if it becomes a crutch and you start using it solely to copy other poses or shots then it can have a negative effect on creativity (for me at least). I’ve recognised this and I’ve addressed it.

So how did I come to take these shots? I’ve been wanting to take more ‘flowery’ shots since last year but the moment I got into the idea of doing it the season changed and the majority of flowers disappeared. But now that we are moving into spring and summer I am very much keen to move slightly away from industrial shots and add another tick to my portfolio.

Alongside the usual clingfilm and Vaseline thing that I’ve been doing, I’m also going to start experimenting by shooting through net curtains. A couple of these were achieved by shooting through a solid red and also a solid white net curtain. Eventually I’m going to see what I can do with more patterned net curtains.

Some words about the model…
I’ve worked with Aiysha a couple of times now and I genuinely think they could stand there and do nothing and they would instantly look cool. We’ve done flowery shots together before but I think we added something different this time and I’ve already got ideas for the next time we shoot.

Aiysha is also a great up and coming poet. You can catch them performing in both Bristol and Cornwall, amongst other places. Feel free to check out their upcoming dates and/or follow them by clicking here.
