Self Portraits, 17.4.20

Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken in my attic flat in Camborne, Cornwall, UK

Some words about the shots…
Obviously the outbreak has had a huge affect on everyone and creatives everywhere have been searching for ways to be creative without having to really leave the house. I’ve seen a whole host of things from long distance portraits of people in their windows to portraits via Facetime but as I don’t live close enough to many models I know and also don’t have the best of internet I felt that it may be best to turn the camera to myself.

While this has become a technique to make use of a few hours every few days, it’s also been a good way of figuring out themes, poses and styles that I would like to develop further when all of this is over (particularly poses because I am not the most flexible). It’s also been a great way to test my creativity. My flat has low ceilings, it isn’t particularly aesthetically pleasing enough to photograph myself with wider shots within my environment so I’ve had to think of ways to make shots interesting still and I hope that I’ve been able to do that to some extent (I guess that I could go out to rural places to take self portraits but given that we’re all supposed to be isolating it felt like an unnecessary risk). Also, anyone eagle eyed enough will notice that I’ve been working on some new presets, I’m hoping that these will generally be self portrait only presets (although the black and white one will definitely move beyond that).

If you’ve read this far before looking at the images then a pre-warning, there are A LOT of images in here. I’ve uploaded them pretty much in the sets that they were photographed so hopefully that will help those who want to take a break and come back to them later.

Enjoy.
