Andrew, Portrait Photography via Zoom, 8.3.21

Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken using Zoom and the power of the internet!

Some words about the shots…
Oh man, we got about ten minutes into this shoot and for some strange reason my audio just completely went. I tried a bunch of things and had zero luck so we just battled through communication-less. If ever there was a lesson served on how important talking is, even when you’re not posing someone, then this was it. I wonder what’s more awkward, a breakdown in communication face to face or on Zoom? That said, Andrew was great. Super patient. And obviously wonderfully theatrical and just brilliant in front of the camera. Literally the best person I could have been doing arty portraits with and for that to happen. Arty people understand arty people and just make things work regardless of the setbacks I guess?

Just because I like the challenge., I did try out some new things here. Mainly spraying a screen with water and seeing if it would manipulate the image, as well as putting syrup on it also. Neither had the big effect that I wanted. I also used a magnifying sheet that I’ve used for self portraits. Again, it didn’t really have the effect that I wanted it to. I’m not entirely sure if shooting in the evening had an effect but it’s worth exploring on a daytime shoot. When something like this doesn’t work out then I just want to try it again and find a way to make it work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these Zoom portraits.
