Where were these photographs taken?
These photographs were taken around Truro, Cornwall. Mainly in Victoria Gardens but also in a couple of other places dotted around the city.
How were these photographs taken?
Up until this point I’ve mainly focused on grungy industrial location shoots or indoors lingerie/nude shoots. It’s getting towards a season where vibrant flowers are out in force and even though we aren’t quite there yet, we braved the weather to get a few shots.
For anyone who follows me, you’ll have noticed that I’ve started trying to make my flower photographs a bit more dreamy and I wanted to follow this across to portraits as well. This meant the standard putting Vaseline over the clingfilm on my lens, which gets a cool effect (or at least I think so, maybe comment and give me your thoughts?)
This effect is fundamentally challenging a lot of what I’ve held close for awhile as a creative person and that’s the pursuit of perfection. When you experiment in this way, even the in-focus is soft focus and for someone hyper aware of what is in and out of focus, it’s a challenge to just take the photograph and let it be what it is. After all, taking photographs is more about the feeling and atmosphere it emits rather than the technicality (in my opinion anyway) and hopefully these have come out looking ethereal.
It’s worth of note here as well that Sophia is a photographer (You can check out her work via www.sophiabest.co.uk) but I managed to coax her to the other side of the camera for this one. Thanks Sophia!
